Our Story
How we began
Before there was a brand, there was a moment of silence that changed everything.
I had committed to 30 minutes of daily meditation. Nothing more, nothing less. Just me, the quiet, and whatever was waiting on the other side of the noise.
On the seventh day, I sat down and didn't get up. 210 minutes of silence.
And in the deepest part of that stillness, something spoke. Not loudly. Not dramatically. Just clearly, the way truth tends to arrive when we finally stop moving long enough to hear it.
"Shea Butter."
The beginning
I followed the call. I bought 55 pounds of shea butter and I got to work.
The first creation was potent and made with everything I had. But something a trusted mentor said stopped me in my tracks when he saw it on a shelf for the first time.
"It has too much of a learning curve. It'll take a long time to explain it to a wider audience."
He was right. And instead of being crushed by that, I felt something unexpected.
Relief. Permission. An invitation to go deeper.
The year of returning
I took a full year away from launching, away from performing, away from the pressure to have it all figured out. I went back to the roots.
Back to the plants I had grown up watching. Back to the ancestral knowing I had inherited but not yet fully claimed. Back to the questions that actually mattered: not "what can I sell?" but "what do people actually need?"
What I kept returning to was this: so many of us are running. We are holding everything and everyone together, pouring from cups that have been empty for a long time. We have forgotten what it feels like to be nourished. To be tended to. To stop and say, this moment, this body, this life deserves care.
With the guidance of my mentor Michelle, I found the name that had been waiting for me all along.
BirthRite.
Because joy is your birthright. Because ease is your birthright. Because caring for yourself, deeply and without apology, is not something you have to earn. It is something you were always meant to have.
What BirthRite is
BirthRite is for the person who has been carrying a lot.
The one who takes care of everyone else first and quietly hopes that someone, somewhere, is taking care of them too. The one who knows, on some level, that they deserve more rest, more softness, more presence in their own life, but hasn't quite found the way back to themselves yet.
Every offering in the BirthRite collection was made with you in mind. Reiki-infused during the blending process, crafted from ethically sourced botanicals, and poured with the intention that whatever you are carrying when you open the jar, something in you will soften.
Because that is what this is. Not just skincare. Not just wellness. A remembering. A return. An act of saying, I matter enough to nourish.
About the maker
Hi. I'm Kamoy. And I made this because I needed it too.
I was born in Clarendon, Jamaica, into a lineage that understood the land as medicine. I watched women in my family move through the world with a kind of quiet knowing, the way a particular plant could ease a body, how certain rituals could settle a spirit, how care passed between hands could carry something deeper than words.
I carried that knowing with me when I moved to Canada, through the years of building a life, becoming a mother twice over, learning the particular exhaustion of pouring endlessly outward. I am a Chef, an Artist, a Reiki Level II Practitioner, and a self-care formulator. But before any of those titles, I am a woman who had to learn, slowly and imperfectly, what it meant to come home to herself.
BirthRite is that learning made tangible. Every jar, every mist, every roller is crafted in ceremony with Reiki infused at every stage, because I believe the energy we bring to the making matters as much as the ingredients themselves.
I think about you when I make these. The person who will open this and take a breath. The moment you will have with yourself that nobody else will see. I make these things for that moment.
Thank you for trusting me with it.
With grace and gratitude,
Kamoy
